New to this, but everybody says I have a perfect voice for it. Appreciate your video tutorials.
Perfect is the enemy of good is how I internalized the concept. Otherwise you refine infinitely looking for perfect and missing good.
Great show Angela. Thanks for all u do! My husband is a combat veteran and he has taught me a visualization technique that I have applied to job interviews, going down huge waterslides, or having difficult conversations alike: Picture all of your fears and anxieties and picture them as a physical brick wall. And then literally visualize yourself breaking through that wall. I figured if it got him tbrough some highly stressful life and death situations, it can work for me too.
I love that! I'll definitely use that! Thank you
You provide a lot of excellent information; thank you.
Practice makes BETTER. I was lucky to have the infamous Tim Tippits knock the perfect out of my mind set. It will never be perfect. I have learned it’s good enough. I needed to hear this. I’m in reverse. I had a plan and when my voice coach told me he would eventually kick me out of the nest I was stunned. I am further ahead than what I had planned. My confidence is there, it was the plan that shortened. We talked about this. This is my journey. I did expect it take longer. I accepted that. Now it’s moving faster and that I did not expect. It’s time to move with the new flow. Readjusting the sails before I get kicked out of the nest.
Well said, and you are ready my friend. Spread those wings
@44:41 - 🙂 disregard email- I just asked you this, hearing AFTER the inquiry. Thank you Angela.
I’m jumping in full time after being laid off, I’m excited and worried. I’ve avoided advice for decades about going into voice work, it’s time to start!
Once you do have a couple books you have done for pay, what is the legality of using a sample from those books for your portfolio?
This video was invaluable to me; thank you so much for sharing. Hope to see you on your Tuesday live show today!
I've had this crazy tune in my head all day!
If you're still working on your demo reel, can you set up the profiles and not go live with them yet? BTW, the ACX short audition video was great!
Thanks so much for this, Angela! I've never used the video capabilities of Audition before. I'll give this a go.
One hard lesson I have learned about reading a document from an independent client is tor read the book through, and make sure it is well written! I am putting a project on hold because the document needs proofreading, specifically copy editing.
Yes, that definitely happens. Sometimes, it's simply because they sent the wrong, unedited version too.
Do not subscribe to Audible, it is far too expensive! There are many DAW programs that offer free downloads and a free trial period. Most will do the exact same thing plus a whole lot more for a far more affordable price. When I wanted to cancel my Audible subscription they told me they wanted $103.00 to cancel according to their fine print. Buy a DAW, some sell for $200 -$300 and you're done paying forever.
Narration is one thing… editing totally a new thing! Looks very complicated! I do VO auditions for commercials usually… Rode mic and pop blocker with my iPad. Minimal editing. Easier to redo rather than edit. Crazy! Is it necessary to get a laptop rather than an iPad? Where do we learn to edit ? You are a pro at it! I usually go to the production studio to record a commercial. They do the editing.
Thanks for sharing your experience, your wisdom ❤
❤️
I got my first audiobook contract. I'm learning this. My voice will get tired and then I go edit instead 😅. Is there a rhythm to this? Do you record a number of chapters (not in one setting) then edit later?
Listen to your body, take a break when you need one. I take a break every 2-3 hours tops. There is no "right" way to do this. Congratulations!
Hey I’m new and just signed up on fiverr. The pricing screen looks like it has been revised since this, and there’s now multiple pages after that screen. Hoping you could make an updated video for us new newbies 😁
That's a great point! Yes, the site has been updated several times since I've posted this video. Thanks for the push! 😉
What time and day does the patreon group meet?
I don't have a patreon, but my Platinum group meets Thursday nights at 8pm EST.
So you’re super helpful and have an awesome voice, but it’s concerning that the book you read for clearly hasn’t been edited…
Professional!
What is the average for auditions sent on ACX to responses? 10, 30,50...
It's going to depend on many factors: how quickly you submit the audition, your audio quality, and most importantly, if you're the voice the author is looking for. You want to audition often to increase your chances. I've seen 10 auditions result in 2 jobs, and also 50 auditions result in 2 jobs. There are too many variables to really put an average on it.
@@VoiceOverAngela Thank you. Just needed a ballpark to adjust my expectations.
@@grinningtiki220 I get it, for sure. Typically, a 10% win rate would be ideal, but again, there are just too many variables in play.
These are great tips that are helpful for me, and I will be using them in my business, thanks! 💯
Hey Angela, how do you record your screen while recording yourself at the same time with your mic? I’d like to start doing video tutorials so any tips are highly appreciated. Thanks!
Thanks for watching! I think at the time of this recording I was using OBS. But I've since moved to streamyard, it's super easy to use
@@VoiceOverAngela been watching since 2021! And thank you so much 😊
Hello Angela. Reaching out to you for the first time. Please do an instructional video about how to submit demos from Audacity to ACX . I have the latest version of Audacity 3.5 and I have MacBook Air. Thank you.
Thanks for watching! I haven't used Audacity in years but great idea! I'll have to re-acquaint myself
Excellent and helpful info!
This is very helpful! I’m interested in a Fiverr webinar. Since I’m just seeing this today, not certain if you’ve already held it. But I’m glad I found you last night and interested in doing voiceovers.
Glad you are feeling better!
Getting there! Thank you!
Very Helpful!
This is the thing I'm most nervous and fearful of. Files, hard drives, all those things with storage and knowing how to save files properly... Storage etc and making my computer my workstation. I am literally the worst at tech and I'm only 30
Just like anything else, we learn as we go! :) Never let lack of knowledge stop you from moving forward
When yu read, did you print out the material and read from that, or have it on a screen?
I read from my computer screen, or some use a tablet.
*and goodnight. U gotta add that 😫 2:52
You're right!
Got a lil disco going on 0:45
Absolutely!
Do you know anything about ACTUALLY being blacklisted from being on Fiverr?
If we're talking about agents, I don't personally know anyone who has been blacklisted. I think the concern is exclusivity in certain regions or geographic locations where the client uses your voice, or agent, for that matter. But, no, I don't know anyone who has been "blacklisted" for being on fiverr.
Your video was 1 minute and ended as you were answering the question.
Hi Mrs. Angela thanks for your time. This episode was really engrossing. It's packed with a bevy of important and consistent information.
Great to hear! Thank you for watching!
I wonder if these same ideas also applies for Pay 2 Play sites.
Mostly, they're all structured a bit differently. Thanks for watching!
Doesn't help
The biggest issue today is so many new people want to get into voice acting they'll do ground level work for free to get their foot in the door which screws over everyone who this advice is great for. Basically, the focus should be on getting an agent who will get you a real price and hope you're lucky enough you get passed a few dollars before that point.
Thanks❤ btw what did you mean here at 14:09
LibriVox training
You helped as always thanks
Thanks a TON Angela, thanks for being around. @voicetalent_ben (INDIA)
Thank you! Great tips for the rate menu too :-)
Thanks for the information
Do you mean in the "Messages to Rights Holder" to included our rate?
You can, for sure. I do. My message was mainly to not limit yourself to auditions that are just in your PFH range.
Not the sandal! 😂😂😂
🤣❤️
This is such a simple but great tip. There were so many auditions I just sent off without actually mentioning my rate which I'm hindsight I should have
Hi Angela. I am wondering if Sag /Aftra perfomers are able to record and narrate ?
Yes! Be sure to check the union member info on ACX and GVAA for rates.
